Reducing Mount Burn on a Print

Brief Condition Report

Acidic components of the mount board caused a particular pattern of discolouration on this print, called mount burn. Furthermore, the exposed area in the window mount showed signs of discolouration to the paper.

Brief Treatment Report

The print was surface cleaned, with particular focus on the mount burn. The object was washed and light bleached (with the image area protected) in an alkaline water bath before pressing and storing unmounted in a PE sleeve.
