Before entering into the field of conservation-restoration, Bethany Procopio studied BFA Painting at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in Minneapolis, USA and finished her education at l’Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy. She then decided to expand her academic knowledge with an MA in Comparative Art and Archaeology at University College London. In her professional life, Bethany acquired years of experience as an art teacher and in various roles in museums and galleries across the world, including assisting a senior curator of the Benaki Museum, Athens.

Bethany Procopio attended undergraduate studies in fine art conservation at the Hochschule der Künste of the Berner Fachhochschule in Bern, Switzerland. She began studies in easel painting and sculpture conservation before deciding to focus on paper conservation. During her studies, Bethany volunteered at the Swiss Nation Archive to assist in the cleaning of glass plate negatives, and interned with paintings conservator Ingrid Guni as well as at paper conservation Atelier Rothe.

Bethany Procopio moved to the UK in September 2019 for her MA in Conservation of Fine Art at Northumbria University with the specialism Works of Art on Paper, and earned a Distinction. She was active in the department and served as the student representative as well as the president elect of the Conservation of Fine Art Society, for which she received the commendation of ‘representative of the year’ in 2021. She was fortunate to have had to opportunity to work at Matt Parsons Paper Conservation, Newcastle as well as at the Scottish Conservation Studio under Helen Creasy, which was supported by a generous bursary from the York Consortium for Conservation and Craftsmanship. Bethany Procopio is a member of ICON, IIC, and YFCC.
