Retouching an Illustration Damaged by Silverfish

This early 20th century illustration had suffered extensive silverfish damage to large areas of the painted surface. Because a published copy of the image contemporaneous to the original exists, it was possible to reference this to reconstruct missing parts of the image. The object was surface cleaned before retouching in watercolour and graphite pencil, which took two days.
